Lack of multichannel SACD playback will soon change with Philips' upcoming SACD1000, a combination SACD/DVD player with a targeted $1,200 introductory price.

For the time being, Sony will stick to its two-channel SACD course, but plans to include SACD playback in its highly anticipated sleek new $1,500 flagship DVP9000ES DVD player, which also sports 480P progressive output.

To further widen the format's acceptance, Sony will also introduce a $1,300 5-disc carousel SACD changer, the TTX-1416.

Both Sony players are slated for November 2000 availability.
