Harmony Remote Control

The Harmony remote is a totally new concept in A/V remote controls. Its programming and set-up is totally web based. The remote has a USB port, which is connected to your computer, but no additional drivers or software are required. After connection, you log onto the Harmonyremote.com web site and select the components in you system from an extensive list on the site. If you do not see you component then you must use the remotes learning capabilities.

However the next time you log onto the site, your remote uploads the new component and its codes to the web site. As you will appreciate, with end-users adding to the component database it will only be a short time before tens of thousand of components are listed.

The Harmony remote does not use macros; instead it uses your computer (actually the web site) to develop sequences to operate your system. If the sequence that remote anticipated doesn't work then the system learns through a series of question what went wrong and adjusts its operation.

This is the first remote I has ever tried with a useful 'Help' button. When you press the help button a series of questions about the status of your system, such as "Is the TV on?" or "Is another program being displayed?" appear on the backlit LCD display. The remote asks questions in simple English until it gets enough information to determine what is wrong and then takes corrective action.

The remote is light and fits nicely in your hand. It has volume and channel up and down, power, and playback control keys that are not backlit but are uniquely sized and easily found with a thumb. A scroll wheel along with a mode button are positioned on the side of the remote with an LCD panel on the lower third. []

See more of the Harmony remote in our Accessories section.
