New from McIntosh, their XR27 speakers, seen here with company representative Sally Goff. The XR27 are everything that one has come to expect from McIntosh, beauty, form and functionally. The speakers contain five 1” dome tweeters, four 8” woofers and a 6.5” midrange. Capable of handling 1200watts, they can be mounted just about anywhere, either vertically or horizontally. Although self-supporting, optional bases are available if they are intended to be used as floor-standers. M.S.R.P. is $5,000 each.

Artistic Audio unveiled a speaker they call the Mobius, seen here with company president John Larsen. A black ball atop a stand of metal enclosure, these speakers are sure to delight those not only interested in sound but looks as well. Sonically they sport a patented technology that according to the supplied literature allow for true 360-degree sound. While I can’t claim to have heard that from these speakers, their 45Hz – 20,000Hz rated frequency response is certainly worth more then a casual listen. Targeted at the mid-fidelity marketplace, they certainly should find many homes in the years ahead.

The new Model 150 amplifiers powered Red Rose Audio’s Rosebud 2 speakers. The Rosebuds definitely didn’t seem to mind having 75watts of power behind them, nor, with eyes closed, did they sound like bookshelf speakers. In fact, their small stature might make someone rethink their bias towards larger floor standing models. Sitting atop optional floor stands, these $3,500/pair speakers would likely make even the most difficult to please audiophile happy and were definitely worth a listen, even in the acoustically challenged rooms of the Alexis Park. |

IMF Audio, a company making their debut at CES 2003, showed their new Musica Model 25 loudspeakers at their suite in the Alexis Park. Decidedly modern, at least the examples at the show, they will be available in a variety of sizes and colors in the months ahead explained CEO Shayne Tenace. Built on years of speaker design, according to IMF the Musica range embrace all the lessons learned from their years in the business. The Musica series will be priced from $700-$6,000 depending on model and finish. []
